The name Ballon Bleu refers to the shape of the watch, which appears almost weightless on the wrist—like a floating balloon. The domed case harmonizes with the curved sapphire crystal and guilloché dial. Blue sword hands and a combination of polished and satin-finished surfaces on the bracelet underscore the refined and exciting aesthetic. Roman numerals encircle the dial, with the III deflected from its path and shifted inward under the influence of the round winding crown in deep blue. This innovative design element makes the watch even more unique and integrates perfectly into the balance of lines and volume that makes the Ballon Bleu so distinctive.

This Cartier watch is powered by an automatic movement that measures just 3.8 millimeters in height. It has a power reserve of 40 hours and is protected by a paramagnetic alloy.
