Breguet

Driven by an inventive spirit, Breguet transformed mechanical watchmaking more than 240 years ago. The maison introduced groundbreaking innovations including the tourbillon and one of the world’s earliest wristwatches. By the late 18th century, Breguet had become the watchmaker of choice for the French royal court and distinguished figures such as Marie-Antoinette and Napoleon Bonaparte. Defined by exceptional craftsmanship and timeless elegance, Breguet watches continue to stand among the most revered creations in haute horlogerie.

Breguet was founded in 1775, when Abraham-Louis Breguet opened his workshop in Paris and began redefining the art of watchmaking through technical innovation and refined design. In 1780, he created the first self-winding timepiece, followed by pioneering inventions including the gong spring and the now-iconic Breguet hands.

The maison continued to shape the future of horology with the introduction of the pare-chute shock protection system in 1790 and the patenting of the tourbillon in 1801. Breguet’s exceptional creations quickly gained recognition among European royalty, scientists, military leaders, and cultural figures.

Among his most celebrated achievements was the creation of one of the first wristwatches, designed in 1810 for Queen Caroline Murat of Naples. Abraham-Louis Breguet also served as chronometer-maker to the Royal Navy and was honored by leading scientific and royal institutions throughout Europe.
