History of Panerai

In 1860, Giovanni Panerai founded a workshop, boutique, and Florence’s first watchmaking school on the Ponte alle Grazie. Known for creating precision instruments for the Italian Royal Navy, Panerai earned a reputation for excellent legibility and strong luminous properties.

In the 1920s, Panerai moved into the Archbishop’s Palace opposite the Duomo, where it operated as “Orologeria Svizzera”, becoming synonymous with quality.

Today, Panerai’s historic Florence boutique remains a hub for collectors. In 1997, the brand was acquired by the Richemont Group and launched globally. Since 2002, Panerai has developed and manufactured its watches in its own facility in Neuchâtel, Switzerland—a renowned horological center home to Rolex, Patek Philippe, and Girard-Perregaux.
