Study your partner’s style closely – not just in terms of jewellery but also what she wears on a day-to-day basis. Does she favour earthy tones, pastel shades or classic black and white? Are her favourite pieces of jewellery made of yellow, pink or white gold? Does she prefer to have one big gemstone or several smaller ones? Does she like to wear clothing and accessories that stand out, or does her style tend to be more classic and subtly elegant?

These questions are often relatively easy to answer – in fact, it is frequently sufficient just to take a closer look at her, and, if needs be, glance through her wardrobe or jewellery box. If it only contains necklaces and rings in yellow gold, then a white gold ring is not going to be ideal.
