What is a deployment clasp?

Created by Louis Cartier in 1910, a deployment clasp is an expanding metal mechanism used to secure a wristwatch. They are often used to streamline a watch band, as when the clasp is closed the buckle is virtually invisible, eliminating traditional bulkiness.
