Sihh x IWC

Pilot Perpetual Calendar Chronograph Edition

Swiss watchmakers IWC have released an assortment of new watches. This is a complicated-sports watch; a solid gold perpetual calendar chronograph that is a special edition in the Petit-Prince sub-collection (the children’s book written by French aviator Antoine de Saint-Exupery). This is the first time IWC has offered a perpetual calendar chronograph on a pilot’s watch. A large watch at 43mm and nearly 16mm think, this is the norm for IWC.

Although a perpetual calendar may not be a necessity for an aviation watch, IWC have always been pioneers in creating impressive hybrids. This particular perpetual calendar is a special creation for the brand as it was their legendary design engineer Kurt Klaus who found a way to create such a complex mechanism in the base of a Valjoux 7750.

Pilot Top Gun Collection

A new collection of Spitfires are taking off at IWC, a diverse four-set of watches that all carry the Top Gun film name on their casebacks. The four watches have a lot in common but each has a distinct character that pays homage to the famous flight school. The first and most basic of the four is a three-hand-plus-date Automatic watch, a simple all-black automatic pieces with a 41mm housed in a black ceramic and titanium. The second in the range is the Ceratanium edition, a new material from the brand that fuses the lightweight properties of titanium and the scratch resistance of ceramic. The watch houses IWC’s well-known doppelchronograph movement.

A new style for the collection is the Mojave Desert watch a sand coloured ceramic watch with matching brown-ish dial and tonal sand strap. The last of the bunch and probably the most classic is a traditional IWC Pilot’s Chronograph with matte black ceramic casing and a new in-house movement, the caliber 69380. A contemporary take on a stalwart model.
