Roger Dubuis x Pirelli
Watchmaking and motorsports have always gone hand in hand and if it isn’t happening in Switzerland you can bet there’s something going on in Monaco. Last month saw the live digital launch of the second season of Roger Dubuis x Pirelli, in the brand-new Excalibur Spider Pirelli Single Flying Tourbillon. After the motor race was finished, the high-spec watch hits the track with a strap to match the colour of the winning car tyres. The new watch includes a complementary Pit Stop Collection Box of interchangeable straps; with each strap reflecting the partnership between Roger Dubuis and type maker Pirelli.
The seven straps included in the set echo the seven Pirelli type colours used for competitions during the previous season. Each show the Pirelli logo positioned on the side of every high-speed racing type and is engraved with the code used by Pirelli to track its winning tyres. This same code again appears on the Certificate of Authenticity signed by both Pirelli and Roger Dubuis.
Just like the famously fast pitstop changes on the tracks, the Excalibur Spider Pirelli Single Flying Tourbillon features a QRS (Quick Release System) on the strap and buckle so the strap can be changed in less than three seconds.
With an eye-catching black DLC-coated titanium case, this exclusive 28-piece limited edition watch features new trigger and bridge designs, along with a transparent view of the new RD508SQ hand-wound calibre with power reserve indicator and state-of-the-art black Astral Skeleton. The dial features automobile-inspired pointers rimmed with a speedometer-like seconds counter. The single flying tourbillon is situated at 7 o’clock while the multi-coloured power-reserve indicator offers a cool nod to racing car cockpit fuel gages.
