Panerai Luminor California 8 days DLC PAM 779
Panerai have just released the Luminor California 8 Days DLC PAM 779; a smaller Luminar on a Bund strap. The name of the new watch comes from its titanium case that’s been coated with diamond-like carbon (DLC), a dark, scratch-resistant material. At 300m the case is 44mm, the same size as the original Luminor model. The P.5000 movement is an in-house piece with an eight-day power reserve.
The California name refers to the dial; which combines both Arabic and Roman numerals, originally created to improve legibility by separating the top and bottom halves of the dial. Historically, this dial style was only found on the Radiomir watches but has since been adapted to suit the Luminor.
The bold two-part strap is made up of a conventional strap with the addition of a removable leather cuff. Within military circles this sstyle is known as “Bund” after a fact that the German military, or Bundeswehr, once issued such straps to aviators, the strap has no relation to military dive watches.
The Luminor California 8 Days DLC PAM 779 launches in August.
