The GMT-Master II in Oystersteel by Rolex

GMT-Master II

With the Rolex GMT-Master II, the Swiss luxury watch manufacturer Rolex presented an exclusive new release from the GMT-Master range at Baselworld 2018. This Oystersteel timepiece is fitted with a 3285 calibre, a new-generation movement that boasts a power reserve of approximately 70 hours, underlining Rolex’s pioneering role in the art of watchmaking. Furthermore, like all Rolex wristwatches, the new GMT-Master II carries the Superlative Chronometer Officially Certified certification, a precision standard which guarantees excellent performance.


The Tudor Black Bay GMT with its new GMT function

Black Bay GMT

Geneva watchmaker Tudor is expanding its Black Bay line, presenting a model with a highly functional complication: in addition to local time, the Tudor Black Bay GMT can display two further time zones. As a tribute to the GMT function, the rotating red-and-blue bezel has been adopted from the other models with the same watch function. Additional time zones are indicated by a red snowflake hand, Tudor’s unmistakeable design hallmark.

The new Manero Tourbillon DoublePeripheral by Carl F. Bucherer

Manero Tourbillon Double Peripheral

The successful Lucerne watch manufacturer Carl F. Bucherer presented a world first in Basel: the Manero Tourbillon DoublePeripheral. This timepiece is the to combine a peripheral automatic movement and a peripherally mounted tourbillon that appears to float. The collection’s new masterpiece boasts a unique movement, the CFB T3000, which was developed entirely in-house. As a pioneer of double-peripheral technology, the Swiss watchmaker is once again demonstrating its innovative spirit at Baselworld.

The new Manero Peripheral watches by Carl F. Bucherer

Manero Peripheral

The second series of models that Carl F. Bucherer presented at Baselworld 2018 was the Manero Peripheral. Two new versions with pink gold and stainless-steel cases have been added to this timeless and elegant COSC-certified chronometer. In addition, the diameter of the timepieces has been increased to 43 mm.

The new Manero Flyback by Carl F. Bucherer

Manero Flyback

Carl F. Bucherer stood out from the crowd at Baselworld 2018 with the Manero Flyback. The chronograph is considered a statement of style and cosmopolitan spirit. The latest version of this distinctive timepiece dazzles with its tastefully elegant stainless-steel case and black dial. Inside the watch is a sophisticated chronograph movement with flyback function.


Bucherer’s interview with Walter von Känel, CEO of Longines

The Swiss watch manufacturer Longines also presented its new timepieces at Baselworld 2018. The brand reaffirmed its reputation for exceptionally strong Heritage launches, while simultaneously presenting some exciting new releases. Walter von Känel, CEO of Longines, told us more in our interview with him.

The new chronometer from the Record collection by Longines


The chronometers from the Record collection combine classic elegance with the excellent performance for which Longines is famous. The new model is made of 18K pink gold and contains a mechanical automatic chronometer movement. The dial with its sun-pattern finish goes hand in hand with the blue alligator leather strap, adding the perfect finishing touches to this outstanding timepiece.

Hydro Conquest Diver

Longines again combines its high technical standards with traditional elegance in this addition to the HydroConquest series – a range that was inspired by aquatic sports. The latest model boasts a black dial with large numerals and a mechanical automatic movement.

The new Heritage Legend Diver Watch by Longines

Heritage Legend Diver Watch

Longines presented a new model from the Heritage line at Baselworld 2018 – the Heritage Legend Diver Watch. This new interpretation of Longines’ diver’s watch from 1960 features a black dial with clearly contrasting indexes, numerals and hands coated with Super LumiNova®. The stainless-steel case of this reinterpreted watch houses an exclusive automatic movement. The embossed image of a diver on the reverse and the black, Milanese-style rubber strap round off this sporty model.

The new Master from the Longines Master Collection

Master Collection Annual Calendar

A new model has also been added to the Longines Master Collection, which continues to combine classic elegance with excellence. The timepiece features an annual calendar and the new L879 automatic movement. The white dial with a stamped barleycorn motif contrasts with the brown alligator leather strap, which rounds off the elegant Master perfectly. For more understated wearers, the model is also available with a black dial and a black leather strap.

The Conquest V.H.P. by Longines

A further masterpiece has been added to the Conquest range of sports watches by Longines. With the Conquest V.H.P., the watchmaker has launched a sporty yet elegant timepiece that sets new standards in the field of quartz watches. The absolute precision, highly technical character and sporty design of this model emphasise the success of the Conquest sports watches by Longines.

The new Elegant Collection watch by Longines

The Longines Elegant Collection

As the name of this new Longines timepiece indicates, the new collection is inspired by elegance. Made of stainless steel, this exquisite model is adorned with 13 diamonds. The Elegant Collection is available with different dials, but all the versions have in common the skilful way they combine simplicity and classic design in keeping with the Longines brand’s long-standing tradition.

Villeret Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Rétrograde

At Baselworld 2018, Blancpain expanded its range of complications with the Villeret Tourbillon Volant Heure Sautante Minute Rétrograde. The flying tourbillon has been redesigned in such a way that it appears to be floating, and a jumping hour hand and retrograde minute hand have been added to the watch. The handcrafted dial rounds off this beautiful timepiece.

Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s

First launched in 1956, a further masterpiece has been added to the Bathyscaphe range. Blancpain presented the Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe Day Date 70s, which is limited to just 500 pieces, at Baselworld 2018. Inspired by its predecessors, the diver’s watch nevertheless also incorporates Blancpain’s current technical advances. Like the 1970s model, the new Fifty Fathoms Bathyscaphe features Arabic numerals arrayed every five minutes, thus rounding off the homage to Blancpain’s popular diver’s watch.

For Baselworld 2018, Blancpain expanded the Fifty Fathoms collection to include a model that is the first to feature a big date in a double window. The date is displayed at 6 o’clock and changes instantly at midnight.

The new Marine Chronograph by Breguet

Breguet presented a further model from the Marine line’s new generation at Baselworld 2018: the Marine Chronograph. With a diameter of 42.3 mm, this timepiece is a relaunch of the Marine models and comes in an impressively sporty design.

The Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique 5367 by Breguet

Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique

Breguet launched the Classique Tourbillon Extra-Plat Automatique as a classic addition to the Breguet Classique Complications. The watch features a grand feu enamel dial and is available in a pink gold or platinum version with a mahogany brown or blue alligator leather strap. This model is more understated than its predecessors and directs the beholder’s attention to the rhodium-plated movement.

In keeping with this collection’s hallmark, the new timepiece displays the date at 3 o’clock on an hour circle of Roman numerals. Various details, such as the Roman numerals and the Breguet hands, are coated in luminescent material, enabling the wearer to tell the time even in the dark at sea.

The new Reine de Naples by Breguet

At this year’s Baselworld, Breguet launched a new interpretation of the Reine de Naples model that debuted on the market in 2002. As well as emphasising the characteristic features of the range launched in 2002, this special ladies’ watch dazzles with its pink gold case that is set with 128 diamonds and its dial of Tahitian mother-of-pearl.

Ocean Star V Caliber 80

Mido presented models from the Ocean Star line. These timepieces embody all the features of the nautical world in a perfect yet natural way. As with sailing, nothing is left to chance during the making of the Ocean Star range: the combination of the powers of research, technology and manufacturing results in watches that are synonymous with precision and efficiency.

The new Multifort Datometer by Mido

The Swiss watch manufacturer is also celebrating its 100th anniversary at Baselworld 2018 by issuing a new interpretation of the Mido Multifort Datometer, a masterpiece from 1939. The key characteristics of the original model have been given a modern twist. The stainless-steel case is coated with pink gold PVD, complementing the silver-plated dial that is decorated with black imprints. The red-tipped hand – a characteristic feature of this elegant timepiece – is a skilful combination of past and present.

With the Baroncelli III Big Date, Mido launched a timepiece at Baselworld 2018 that boasts all the brand’s timeless aesthetic qualities while simultaneously combining them with the Mido Big Date Exclusive movement. The wide date window is 80% larger than on the standard models, making it the eye-catching feature of this timeless design.

The new Commander Shade by Mido

Commander Shade

To mark its 100th anniversary, the Swiss watchmaker Mido honoured one of its icons, the Commander Shade, at this year’s Baselworld. Manufactured for over 50 years and featuring an elegant and sleek monocoque case, this watch has now been entirely coated in pink gold PVD. Combined with the taupe and silver shades of the dial, this results in an especially aesthetic and harmonious watch.


The Big Crown ProPilot by Oris

Big Crown Pro Pilot

Oris presented a unique new model at Baselworld 2018: the Big Crown ProPilot. This pilot’s watch is powered by a 114 calibre, the company’s latest in-house movement. Impressively, the new timepiece is also the first in which the following functions have been combined: a non-linear power-reserve display developed in-house by Oris, a 10-day power reserve, a date display, and, for the first time, a second time zone with a 24-hour scale and half-hour adjustment. No other mechanical watch in the Swiss watchmaking industry boasts these functions. The Big Crown ProPilot is a true newcomer to the watchmaking scene.

At Baselworld 2018, Oris added a new version to this increasingly popular collection of retro diver’s watches. The Source of Life Limited Edition by Oris

Oris presented a limited new release at Baselworld 2018: the Source of Life Limited Edition. This timepiece was inspired by the River Rhine and is a reference to the global problems regarding water resources. Despite an increasing awareness of the issue of water shortage, the water reserves on our planet are still in danger. Oris has launched its Source of Life Limited Edition watch with a philosophical character to highlight its efforts at improving the world.

The Carl Brashear Chronograph by Oris

Carl Brashear Chronograph

With its Carl Brashear Chronograph, Oris pays homage to the life of the first African American master diver in the US Navy, who overcame racist discrimination and an injury-related disability to make it to the top of the Navy. To honour this remarkable achievement, Oris launched a chronograph with two dials in a bronze case as a tribute to Carl Brashear.

At Baselworld 2018, Rado launched the HyperChrome Skeleton Automatic Chronograph, a timepiece for the stylish, modern man. The chronograph consists of a special high-tech ceramic and attracts particular attention for its skeletonised case.
